‘Anadyomene’
Biography: Fritz Klimsch
Venus Anadyomene (‘Venus Rising from the Sea’) is one of the iconic representations of the goddess Venus Aphrodite.
Created in Stone, signed ‘F. Klimsch 1920’. Height 157 cm.
Displayed at the ‘Freie Secession Sonderausstellung Fritz Klimsch’, 1920, Berlin.

‘Anadyomene’ by Klimsch, displayed at the ‘Freie Secession Sonderausstellung Fritz Klimsch’, 1920, Berlin. The exhibition showed a selection of his works from the previous two decades comprising 26 sculptures.

‘Anadyomene’ by Klimsch, located for decades in the garden of the villa of Count Favella in Rome. The historical villa was destroyed during the bombings of Rome in 1943.
Count Francesco Favella married in 1928 the German poet Ilse Heye (Ilse Röchling-Heye, previously married to Alexander Röchling, cousin of the industrialist Hermann Röchling). Ilse Heye aquired the ‘Anadyomene’ in the early twenties.
Klimsch created in 1922 a bust of Ilse Röchling Heye. Ilse Heye, later Theresia Ilse Gräfin Falvella (1895 Düsseldorf- 1957 Pozuolli, near Naples, Italy), was also in the possession of ‘Charis’, 1921/23, a work created by Klimsch in marble.
