Biography: Hugo Lederer

Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg, German Field Marshal.
Bronze, 1915/16. Massive cast (likely a single unique cast), weighting approx. 4 kg.
The model was assumable created in the city of Kowno (Lithuania), base of the ‘Oberkommando des Heeres’ (‘Upper Command of the Army’) at the Eastfront.

In 1915/16, on request of Hindenburg, the sculptors Fritz Klimsch, Hugo Lederer, Ludwig Manzel and Franz Metzner went to the ‘Oberkommando des Heeres’ (‘Upper Command of the Army’) at the Eastfront. There, in the city of Kowno (Lithuania), the artists were asked to portray Paul von Hindenburg (likely for media purposes).
