‘Grosses Herren Portrait’
Biography: Leopold Schmutzler
This portrait is a quite rare one from the hand of Leopold Schmutzler. He painted numerous portraits of women, but very few depicting men. This portrait shows a wealthy man, holding a cigar in his left hand, with an elusive expression on his face. Notice the subtle details such as the armrest of the chair, the cigar, his resting right hand and the double cuffs.
