Werner Peiners version of ‘The Hay Harvest’ by Pieter Bruegel.
Large format. Date of creation: 1943.
The painting hung until 2014 in Haus Vorst, the country house of Werner Peiner. The creation of ‘Der Heumond’ is mentioned on page 104 of the book ‘Werner Peiner, Verfühter oder Verfühter’ by Dieter Pesch/ Martin Pesch, 2014, and on page 138 of ‘Werner Peiner, Ein Künstlerleben in Sturm und Stille’, Manfred Thiele, 2004.
Depicted is the haymayking in an ideal German farmer-landscape.

Notice the similarities in composition, size and execution (oil on wood) between the works by Peiner and Bruegel (below).

Depicted in ‘Kunst dem Volk’, April/May 1943. The text below the photo reads: ‘Neuerwerbung für die Galerie in Linz’. After the invasion of the Czech lands in 1939, the German troops confiscated Breugel’s work in Prague. It was destinated for the Führermuseum in Linz, also referred to as Linz Art Gallery. Nowadays the painting is located in the National Gallery Prague/ Lobkowicz Palace, Czech Republic.
